What is Real Time Ultrasound Imaging?
Real Time Ultrasound Imaging (RTUSI) is a safe and painless diagnostic tool. It is used for the assessment and rehabilitation of the deep abdominal and stability muscles and diagnosing muscle or tendon tears.
Indications for using RTUSI are:
- Back and spinal pain and dysfunction
- Pelvic floor dysfunction during or following pregnancy
- Urinary Incontinence
- Post surgery particularly abdominal surgery
- Shoulder and hip pain and dysfunction
- Sports injuries
- Sports performance enhancement
How does it work?
RTUSI enables imaging of muscles, ligaments and tendons working in real time. It can be used as an assessment tool and more importantly as a form of biofeedback. Using RTUSI optimises deep muscle activation to enhance rehabilitation and function. It ensures a rehabilitation programme addresses the real problems more efficiently and effectively
Appointments
A thorough screening and consent process is required prior to an ultrasound appointment. Ask your physiotherapist if RTUSI is an appropriate tool to use in conjunction with your current treatment.
Appointments take 30mins.
Preparation
Having a full bladder will maximise the picture quality for pelvic floor scanning. We would appreciate you drinking two glasses of water half an hour prior to your appointment.
