Welcome to a New Director and Physiotherapist- Ryan Monastra

The team in Raumati has been further strengthened by the arrival of Ryan Monastra, who joins us as a director in partnership with Sara Dore at the Raumati Clinic to help lighten the busy load!

Ryan Monastra graduated from the University of Otago in 2001. He has a keen interest in sports medicine and worked for the Dunedin Sports Injury Clinic prior to and following graduation, including covering the Masters Games in Dunedin and an International Masters football tournament, before moving north to Wellington to take up a position in Wellington Hospital. He worked in the public system for a couple of years before moving out into private practice.

Ryan has worked within a few different practices in and around Wellington, gaining experience and expertise. He completed the NZ Manipulative Physiotherapy postgraduate course programme in 2004/2005. In 2005 he was Physiotherapist to the Kapiti Horowhenua Rugby team who finished the season as NPC runnersup. In 2006 he left NZ for experience abroad working in a Sports Injury Clinic in Nottingham, England for two years, before moving to Australia in 2008. Having travelled and gained two children in the process, Ryan returns to the Kapiti Coast with a breadth of experience that is sure to be welcomed.

Ryan first learned about Pilates from Back in Motion in 2003 and has run floor classes in three countries now over the past five years. He completed more Pilates training with DMA in the UK in 2006 and then in Australia earlier this year. He is passionate about the benefits of Pilates for the rehabilitation of chronic spinal complaints. His other interests include anything in the great outdoors, (he is particularly passionate about the NZ bush), his wife and two daughters, family, faith, woodworking, a productive garden and not surprisingly, travelling!

Physiotherapy and Clinical Pilates at the Raumati Clinical Pilates Studio

Raumati Clinical Pilates and Physiotherapy, the home of Empower Pilates, has now been operating on the Kapiti Coast for over five years.  Over this time enthusiasts have enjoyed the benefits of a fullyequipped Clinical Pilates studio.  The studio offers the perfect combination of conventional physiotherapy together with Clinical Pilates to produce excellent results for:
- Sports injuries
- Back and neck pain
- Athritis
- Complex Pain Management
- Postoperative exercise and rehabilitaton
- Occupational injuries

The studio is also an oasis of tranquility for those without aches and pains who just want to pursue Clinical Pilates for relaxation, general fitness and vitality!

Sara Dore, a trained manipulative physiotherapist, not only uses Clinical Pilates to treat clients, but also teaches other physiotherapists throughout NZ the DMA Clinical Pilates matwork/theraband level one and two courses to other physiotherapists throughout NZ.  The response from physiotherapists to these courses has been extremely positive with courses often booked out three months ahead.  Physiotherapists are taking the knowledge and wisdom from these courses and applying them to their own rehabilitation practices.

Recognition of Clinical Pilates is growing worldwide with DMA Clinical Pilates operating physiotherapy teaching programmes in the UK, Ireland, Australia, NZ, Hong Kong, and Singapore.  This is being backed up with physiotherapy doctoral research in Australia.

Watch this space!

There's always room for growth, and change brings a certain buzz and excitement to the air - so with a new partnership evolving in the business there will be a few changes happening in the next few months.

These will likely include a slight name change to more accurately reflect the developing nature of the business, some subtle changes to the studio/clinic, changes to the website and longer opening hours. As always, please feel free to make suggestions on what you'd like to see offered and we'll do our very best to accommodate your requests.
